Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. President and Chief Executive Officer Frank J. Del Rio Inducted into the British Travel & Hospitality Hall of Fame

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd - Apr 29, 2019

Industry Honour Recognises the Highest Achievers in the Travel, Hospitality Tourism and Leisure Sectors

London, United Kingdom - 29 April 2019 Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. (NYSE: NCLH), a leading global cruise company which operates the Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises brands, today announced that the Company’s President and CEO, Frank J. Del Rio has been inducted into the British Travel & Hospitality Hall of Fame.

"The induction into such a respected institution is a true honour and an esteemed accolade, which I humbly share with the many talented people who have helped make Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings a true global leader in cruise travel,” said Frank Del Rio, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. “Our worldwide brand and company growth in markets such as the UK and continental Europe reflects the dedication of our employee team members and executive leadership, which I am proud to work alongside.”

Founded in 1995, the British Travel & Hospitality Hall of Fame convenes the most inspiring individuals at the top of their industry across the travel, hospitality and leisure tourism sectors. Frank joins previous inductees that include the likes of Sir Richard Branson, Raymond Blanc and The Roux brothers. The prestigious induction comes in recognition of Del Rio’s outstanding impact and achievement within the travel and hospitality cruising sector.

"Frank is an inspirational figure who has categorically changed the face of modern cruise travel. Having shaped the future of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings into one of the most innovative and largest travel brands in the world today, his induction into the British Travel & Hospitality Hall of Fame is recognition of his stellar career,” said Clive Jacobs, Chairman, Jacob Media Group.

Del Rio started his career not in the travel industry, but as a certified public accountant for a “Big Eight” accounting firm, but credits a long-time friend for introducing him to the world of travel. After a stint at Certified Vacations and Renaissance Cruises, where he rose to the level of CEO, Del Rio founded Oceania Cruises in 2003.

With only USD $7 million in start-up capital and a dozen employees, “the stars aligned and the impossible happened-- Oceania Cruises became a roaring success,” stated Del Rio. Further along, an investment by private equity, followed by the acquisition of luxury line Regent Seven Seas Cruises, resulted in the formation of Prestige Cruise Holdings, the leader in upscale cruise travel. This allowed the company additional growth, where a decade later, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings acquired Prestige at a value of more than USD $3 billion. Shortly after the closing of the transaction, the Company’s Board of Directors appointed Frank as the new CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, parent company of the new and larger organization. He now oversees a global corporation that each year welcomes nearly three million satisfied guests, and has a burgeoning global workforce of more than 30,000 employees.

Today, many of Del Rio’s team who began working at Oceania Cruises since its founding, still work with him, as do more than a few of his colleagues from his earlier days. While the organization today is many times the size of the original Oceania Cruises, Frank still makes time for moments that matter – walking the floors and speaking with team members from all departments and visiting the ships as often as he can. “One of the greatest joys in my life, outside my family and grandchildren, is spending time with the crew on board our ships. I learn a great deal every time I visit, and when everything is said and done, our hospitality begins and ends with them,” said Del Rio.

With Frank at the helm, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has grown to a fleet of 26 ships and has consistently delivered record financial performance with industry-leading metrics. Additional key milestones achieved include the first sailing to Cuba by a major North American cruise brand in more than 50 years, which occurred when Oceania Cruises’ Marina sailed into Havana in March 2017; and the introduction of five new vessels to the Company's fleet, including Seven Seas Explorer, the most luxurious ship ever built, and Norwegian Bliss, the most successful ship introduction in Norwegian Cruise Line’s history. The Company has a strong and exciting growth profile with 11 ships on order for delivery through 2027, including seven ships for Norwegian Cruise Line, two for Oceania Cruises and two for Regent Seven Seas Cruises. The Company will take delivery of its newest ship, Norwegian Encore, in fall 2019.
